Describe what you see

King Menkaure (Mycerinus) and queen, 2490–2472 B.C.E., greywacke, 142.2 x 57.1 x 55.2 cm (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston)
King Menkaure ( Mycerinus) and Queen
2490-2472 B.C.E.
The artwork that I picked was a sculpture of King Menkaure (Mycerinus) and queen.1 This piece is from Ancient Egypt and was made between 2490 and 2472 B.C.E. This piece created the imagery of royalty and the great power of their relationship with one another. Imagine a big stone piece with a king and queen, and the queen is holding the king to show her presence of the fact she supports the king's decisions every step of the way. The artwork within the piece clearly defines the king's strength with his athletic build, and the placement of his legs signifies he is strong and healthy, willing to handle whatever happens head-on. As for his queen looks very delicate; her features are very feminine, but they dressed her in a clinging garment to emphasize every wonderful part she has, creating the ideal beauty of this time. Thus, with every engraving detail the artist did to this stone piece, this artwork shows the loyalty they have for the king and his queen and that multiple citizens praised them for their glory for ruling over them.

  1. Your explanation of the details and how they can make a person feel was amazing. You thoroughly explained the details of what you saw. I also really liked your explanation of their bodies. I think you could improve your explanation of the smaller details on this sculpture. You could have talked about the headdresses and their facial expressions. But overall, beautiful job!
